I was thinking about creating a kitty chess board for auction to raise money for the National Cat Protection Society (NATCAT) as my daughter’s Girl Scout Troop volunteered to do, however, it became a somewhat difficult and tedious task since I started to lack creativity and became inpatient. You know how it is when something you want and love to do starts to feel like a chore or a job due to deadlines and subliminal pressures. I also broke one of my frames on accident that I bought from the dollar store as a board.
I basically created a checkerboard pattern in MS Word and printed it out and decided to put it in a frame to create the chess board and then sculpt polymer figures for the chess pieces. It became laborious when I couldn’t think up a theme and sculpting 32 pieces was harder than I imagined. So of course it took some time. I’d leave the project and then come back to it whenever I felt like it, which wasn’t much. I decided on vegans verses carnivores and decided to make more than one critter, and gave up on the idea of creating it for auction at NATCAT, since it wasn’t totally kitty themed when you throw frogs and snakes in along with the cats and mice.
The pieces are probably bigger than they should be, but if I attempt this project again, I should get better. It was my first time after all. Overall I think it’s weird, but interesting none the less.
